I installed Windows Server 2003 SP1 last week and ever since I’m the recipient of the security stick from the Windows Prison Warden. I suspect it's the same in Windows XP SP2.

Anytime I open an HTML on my local machine that includes script code I get a nice blip message that I have to click to get past. For example, Help Builder’s preview that dumps files out to disk will blip on almost every page because it has a little bit of script code that shows a drop down of related topics when clicked. This is totally safe code, and it’s running the local machine. Great.

How do I turn this damn thing off? This help from the Help file is REALLY useful:

Can I turn off the Information Bar?
Yes. You can, but we don't recommend it. If you do want to turn it off, you have to turn it off for each type of message.

Uh uh. What you’re saying is that I CAN’T TURN IT OFF <g>.

My security is set to allow active scripting both in the Internet and local intranet zone. There are restrictions on downloading anything, but script should run.

There’s gotta be a way to get rid of this?

Some of the security warnings stuff is going just a little too far. It's getting too damn complicated to turn this stuff off when I have explicitly told Windows how I need to use my machine. It's hard enough fighting all those funky settings but then being slapped at the last minute basically says - yeah, we see you know what you're doing, but we don't trust you to be safe anyway.

I know the FireFoxers are going why are you still using IE - well for this particular issue, the Help Builder Preview I'm stuck with IE because FireFox can't be automated well and because it's NOT a system component that's available on every machine.
