Download West Wind Web Connection

West Wind Web Connection 5.37
6/30/2008 14megs
requires Visual FoxPro 9.0 or 8.0

West Wind Web Connection 4.68
8/30/2005 10megs
works with Visual FoxPro 6.0-9.0

Requirements
  • Visual FoxPro
    Versions 9.0, 8.0, 7.0 or 6.0 SP3

  • Web Servers supported:
    Microsoft Web Server (IIS 4-7)
Apache 2.0/2.2 and later for Windows
Visual Studio Web Server or Cassini (included)
Any ISAPI or CGI Compliant Web Server

  • Visual Studio or Visual Web Developer
Recommended but not required. Use Visual Studio 2008, 2005 or the free Visual Web Developer 2008 for visual designing of Web Control pages.

For Web Connection purposes the Standard version of Visual Studio is sufficient. The free Visual Web Developer also works, but the Web Connection add in cannot be used in it due non-support for  add ins.

Please read the following before installation.

Requirements

Web Connection 5.0 and 4.0 are optimized for Visual FoxPro 9.0 and install with VFP 9.0 binaries by default. Both versions also work with VFP 8.0. The older 4.x version also works with VFP 6.0 and 7.0 but VFP 6.0 may see a few errors in the demos due to some features not being available for 6.0. Make sure you read the _Readme.htm document shown at startup which sets up Web Connection to run with older versions of Visual FoxPro.

You also need a Web server - all versions of Windows except the Home Edition come with a Web server. IIS installation is an optional component. Please make sure you install the Web server before starting the Web Connection installation. Web Connection supports Microsoft IIS and Apache 2.x and the Visual Studio Web Server/Cassini with full automated setup and configuration tools. Web Connection also works with any true ISAPI or CGI compliant Web Server, but you have to configure other servers manually and compatibility may be limited due to server implementations.

Visual Studio 2008 and 2005 or Visual Web Developer are recommended if you build Web Control Framework pages, which can be designed using the Visual Studio visual designer and property sheet for rapid WYSIWYG design. Use of these tools is optional and if you build classic Web Connection Process Classes or Template/Script based pages these tools don't offer much beyond basic HTML editing support. Web Control Pages however are specifically designed to take advantage of the Visual Studio environment.

Installation

Web Connection is installed from a self-extracting EXE file that allows you to unzip the program files into a directory of your choice. The files extracted are the actual installation files so put these files into a permanent directory, not your temp path. A Readme document pops up after installation with further instructions and a link to a configuration setup program that configures the Web Server and installs and configures the many Web Connection samples. Help pops up automatically to assist you during the installation process. The help file WCONNECT.CHM serves as
full documentation. You can access it through Explorer or directly from
the VFP Menu under Web Connection.

Shareware

This file is a download for the shareware version of Web Connection, which is fully functional but does not include any source code and thus cannot be recompiled. Several options are set to default for development mode. You can however modify the samples and even create new applications to check out the feature set with your own applications. Web Connection is available as shareware, so you can try out a fully functional version of the software prior to making a final decision on purchasing.

Several features are not available in the shareware version due to its precompiled nature:

  • Creation of new Visual FoxPro Project files
(you can run your new applications as PRG files)
  • Re-compilation of the framework. Since there's no source code
you can't recompile the framework and some settings are permanently set.
  • SQL Server system files for logging and session state
    because these are compilation switches
  • A nag screen pops up everytime you start a Web Connection application.

So what are you waiting for? See for yourself why more people are choosing Web Connection for their Visual FoxPro Web development than any other VFP Web development tool.
