Hi all,

There are a few new message board features that might be worth checking out. There are two major improvements:

* Image Uploads
* View Entire Thread

Image Uploads

You can now upload images using the Insert Image button on the edit form. Previously you could only link to images and a lot of people were posting bogus images that way. I've resisted adding image support primarily because of the SPAM issues that are bound to occur with this, but since the board started asking for logins this should be mitigated to some degree at least.

The new image upload behavior lets you pick an image file and then injects the image link right into the page. This uses a different plUpload component (basically the basic widget rather than the multi-file uploader control) but using the same code that already exists in Web Connection for handling the server side upload of images.

Thread Message View

You can now click on the thread header of any message, or on the thread icon inside of an individual message to see the entire thread of messages in a single view, one after the other. This makes it a bit easier to follow conversations without clicking around as much.

I'm contemplating moving all messages into this sort of thread view, rather than having individual message selection in the list and then drilling into each message. Threads will stay active and be treated as a whole.

I'm looking for some feedback.

Message Pinning for Administrators

It's now possible to pin messages so that they stay active and float to the top of the list always. For example this message is pinned and so this message stays visible as long as it is pinned. This is useful for certain thread announcements etc. This really only provides a benefit to me as the administrator, but I'm hoping it will help keep certain discussions and announcements active a bit longer than they otherwise would if they are just scrolling off.

If you run into any problems with these changes please let me know by posting to this thread. I'm interested in feedback and of course if something's not working quite right.

Thanks,

+++ Rick ---

Rick,

Nice additions. Thought I'd test a little.

You know how long I've been waiting to do this? :)

Wow, a little large actually. Original pic is 14KB. Is there some sort of sizing capability?

That's actually a bug. Images should only size down, not up. Fixed.

Thierry,

Right now messages can only be pinned by the global administrator which is me. Eventually I plan to add support for forum admins that will be able to pin and remove messages from their own fourms. For now, if you need to have a message pinned just let me know and I'll pin/unpin it for you as long as it's not every other day :-)

> Looks like answers to a pinned message appear in a different thread

Not sure what you mean. You're replying to messages on this thread as have others. The message list doesn't refresh with the new post - it never has unless you refresh the entire list.

What is ss?

As I said, the message list doesn't update. Never has, unless you refresh the list. Any child messages only show if they are current or unread once you refresh. Once you pin only the pinned message shows not all the results.

this is one of the reasons I'm considering ditching the individual message views altogether and just going with displaying the thread view which makes the whole thing a lot cleaner. The only issue with as little traffic as we have here, this is going to make it look like nothing is happening...

If want feedback on threads, you should think about taking up knitting or sewing. Lots of old people find it relaxing and comforting... <s>

Yummy Veggie Burger waiting to happen!

One feedback point, use tooltip or ng-mouseover to give hints what will happen if I click on Pin, Star, Folder in forum header.... the more help the better.

Also might want to allow me to size the photo.

Good to simplify uploading images. I felt silly (actually dumb) when I couldn't figure it out.

Also, seeing a conversation's thread is very useful.

Suggestion: include in "messages to you" the ones the user sent; though showing the whole thread may take care of that.

West-Wind is superb a superb package. Congrats.
