Hi all,

I've posted a video for the Web Connection 6.0 beta. Web Connection 6.0 is a major release that brings many high level improvements including a new project layout, improved scripting support, new default templates based on bootstrap and font-awesome and a boat load of usability enhancement in the core libraries.

The video is available at:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kga8Fuhzlwg

For those of you that are registered users of Web Connection I've sent out download links for the Beta for the full version. Version 6.0 will be a paid upgrade, but during the beta cycle the full version is made availalbe to all registered users of 5.50 and later. Users that have purchased Web Connection a year before when Web Connection 6.0 releases get a free upgrade.

If you'd like to upgrade, there's a 15% discount during the beta period from full pricing.

You can upgrade from this link:
http://store.west-wind.com/product/wconnect60_up

Full purchases can be made from this link:
http://store.west-wind.com/product/wconnect60

It's a Beta!
------------
This is a pre-release but it's in pretty good shape. I recommend you watch the video and check out the Setup and Core Step By Step walk throughs which highlight some of the new features.

If you use this version keep in mind that the Web Control Framework has not been updated at this point - all changes are core framework enhancements and enhancements to the template and scripting engine.

Coexistance with other Versions
-------------------------------
Web Connection 6.0 can run side by side with an existing installation as long as you keep your paths seperate. Just install into a different folder (or rename your V5 version). We still provide the old style sheets so existing applications should continue to run just fine, although the new templates all are based of the new Bootstrap based styles.

Most of the feature enhancements are incremental changes and won't break existing applications. Breaking changes are highlighted at the bottom of the the version documentation. The biggest thing to watch out for are the changes in default styling for system components.

Feedback
--------
As always I'm looking for feedback on the beta both in terms of problems as well as suggestions and ideas on the new features and potential other features. Please post on the message board if you run into any issues or you have thoughts about how things might work better for you.

This message board is the best place to post any issues.

As usual, excellent work Rick.. I had to change my email address and I didn't get the link to the beta old email: jim.monte@shields-e.us new email: jmonte407@gmail.com .. Also.. I wish I knew this new version was coming out soon.. I just had a client "Carrier Services Group" purchase 5.72.. then he calls me saying he got an email from west-wind with version 6 beta coming soon.. Do they need to purchase full version 6 when it comes out?

I personally will be buying a copy..

Wow.. how nice to have projects in their own folders!!! Like the whole folder structure... Also, I like the views... slide out menu etc...

Upgrades for customers of Web Connection 5.50 that ordered in the last year (at time of RTM) will get a free upgrade so not to worry.

Send me an email with note for email change and I'll get it taken care off (not at the office at the moment and email will be formal reminder :-))

Thanks for your support over the years!

I went to bitbucket and downloaded your timetrakker sample app.. made changes to setpath.prg to match my setup etc.. create the virtual.. when running do TimetrakkerMain.prg an error pops up saying "ttbasepage.prg not found" the code thats trying to use this is in load_timetrakker.prg

SET PROCEDURE TO ttUser Additive
SET PROCEDURE TO ttLookups Additive

SET PROCEDURE TO ttBasePage ADDITIVE <<----------------
SET PROCEDURE TO timetrakkerCallbacks Additive

*** Load global configuration settings
PUBLIC ttConfig
ttConfig = CREATEOBJECT("ttConfig")
ttConfig.Load()

In the past when creating wconnect apps I usually created the whole page from scratch ..I get a hit in my process class and basically write the whole return page from scratch.. I know you have tons of helper classes and wrappers and I'm an idiot for not taking the time out to learn them.. "AJAX has made me very lazy :)" In this version, I'm going to take advantage of everything I can thats built into wconnect6.. hense I wanted to see the timetrakker app and analyze it..

Thanks

Otherwise you managed to get the app to run though?

Not sure...

That's just a string that maybe is long, but that's working fine on my end.

Try editing views\_layoutpage.wcs and see if that fixes it - it might be a compile mismatch issue.

And please - if you post code - markup the code in the editor so it's more readable.

Hey Rick,

I hit an error in wwPageResponse :: ExpandTemplate when tcContentType is not passed.

*** Add a ContentTypeHeader to output first
IF VARTYPE(tcContentType) = "C"
THIS.ContentType = tcContentType
ELSE
*** Legacy
this.ContentTypeHeader(tcContentType)
ENDIF

Property ContentTypeHeader is not found.

Hmmm... that's odd - not sure how that slipped by. Definitely a regression bug. You can remove the ELSE statement since that is legacy code that has been removed.

Those parameters are all legacy compatibility parameters except for tlTemplateString which allows passing the template as a string.
